my outdoor patio space

While my backyard was spiffed up (for our tour), I snapped a few photographs of our patio area. It all started when we moved in, beginning with our diy patio. Much has evolved over time but currently our space looks like this:

For kicks, let us peek at what this space looked like three years ago.

Obviously, we've crafted this space to feel like our own and it's now a highlight of living in our little bungalow. By sectioning off the yard into different areas, we feel like we actually have more space on the lot.

We love entertaing outdoors, and often have movie nights and bbq's throughout the summer. Even just my husband and myself relaxing after a long work day is wonderful.

Another (hopefully) short note. My insecurities too often prevent me from posting images like these. I fall prey to the expectations that my life "should" look a West Elm catalog. Partly because I believe I COULD style a West Elm catalog (don't kill my dream!), but mostly because it's human nature. Especially in our post Pinterest/Instagram world. CLEARLY I do not have a West Elm budget (or home or photographer), so why the unrealistic standards!?

A quote I find super helpful, “The reason we struggle with insecurity is because we compare our behind-the-scenes with everyone else's highlight reel.” ~ Steve Furtick

I'm being intentional to do better. To not let comparison stifle my own creative sharing. How about you? Do you find you hold back because of expectations?

summer floral bouquet

Monday Greetings!

Sending you a sweet summer (virtual) bouquet to today. The top image is homework from a photography course I'm currently in the middle of taking. The purpose of that image/project is learning to add and subtract light in the photograph. I am pretty proud because there is NO cropping and NO photoshop involved here—a rarity on this blog. It was fun styling the flowers and don't you love that paper backdrop?

Well back to work—continuing my nonstop workaholism to get ready for vacation later this week! Hope you have a great start to your week!

summer please

Am I the only person battling a serious case of summeritis? Dreaming of the days when there was such a thing as summer break....and hoping I can plow through some work to embrace the weekend.

Hoping yours is also a great summer *weekend* break!

mini yogurt popsicles

One of my favorite trial runs for a recent bbq was making these mini popsicles with yogurt. Mix the simple ingredients using this recipe by Joylicious and plop into an ice cube tray. I also want to try variations like posted on Katie's Pencil Box. Deliciousness. And I love them being appetizer size for snacking without the commitment.

summer fun // bucket list //

Happy Monday!

In order to slow down and not let the summer pass me by, I've decided to create a summer "bucket list". Aaannndd of course I feel that you need one too! Below are downloads that you can edit to create your customized list. There is also a circle option to throw into your bucket as you tackle each activity.

It's official. Enjoy your summer.

slow down just a bit

My goodness, where have I been? While I can't stand the "I'm so busy" excuse, adding the large volunteer projects (3 weeks in a row!) on top of my regular work load has sadly left my blog to suffer. Please excuse my crash & burn this week.

Now time to put my household back in order and catch up on overdue work. In tandem, I challenge us all to slow down over the next few days.

3 years ::: a peachy anniversary

Giddy would be a MAJOR understatement.

I'm head over heels. I'm smitten. I'm on cloud nine. Etc. Over and again. Not only is it the 3 year anniversary of the day I married my best friend and love of my life—but I also get to share some incredible images of celebration. All thanks to the incredible talented photography of I'm Fine Today.

I can't stop looking at them! One - they are beautiful images (are they not?), and two - it's images of the most amazing person I know, with me by his side of course. I can't believe I've got him for the rest of my life! Such a lucky girl. Sidenote: I also made a gallery of images from our wedding.

Thanks again to amazing photography of I'm Fine Today! I now need to sign off so I can celebrate with my husband! xoxoxo

lovely bundle {outdoor movie}

With the upcoming release of a certain movie finale, my husband and I want to do a movie marathon so we have a clue what is going on in the storyline. It's always fun to join in on mass mania, right? And considering our backyard is now a perfect hangout, I think an outdoor movie is in the works!

Have any of you been anxiously awaiting this weekends movie? Any midnight movie rendezvous in the works? Either way I hope you have a great weekend!

outdoor pallet table diy

A midweek hello to you!

One of the many things keeping me busy lately has been a backyard overhaul. While I wait to finish a few final touches to the backyard/patio, I want to share our diy pallet table.

To make the table, we used two wood pallets, one 4x4, 4 caster wheels with nuts & bolts, L-brackets & skrews, and then gray stain. First we determined the height we wanted (21"), subtracted the height of the casters and two pallets (15"), then cut the 4x4s for the additional 6" legs. We then attached the 4 legs to the top of the lower pallet and also the underside of the upper pallet. After attaching the 4 casters using nuts & bolts, we decided a little color might look nice. We chose a gray stain hoping for a subtle coloring, but the wood absorbed stain so fast we ended up with a nearly black table. And I will add the amount of work to cover every surface inside of the pallets was....brutal. Do-over I would probably recomend keeping the natural wood color. I still really like the dark look and the size of the table is perfect for our patio.

So there you have it! Works great as an outdoor movable table, and a great alternative to expensive patio furniture. If anyone is interested in more specific direction, just let me know. I realize this wasn't the most detailed diy ever posted.

What do you think of the final product?

// UPDATE // My apologies that this DIY is not a very clear step-by-step. Please read through the comments to make sure your question is not answered there. If you still have a very specific question, I will try to answer via email. With so many repeat questions, emails are often buried in my inbox so I want to apologize ahead for tardy responses. Your understanding is greatly appreciated!
