lovely bundle {fall decor}

Is anyone else shocked that tomorrow is October? I love being submerged in fall but feel like it's almost over, as if I've nearly missed it. Above is the fall eye candy that I am currently swooning over. Simple rustic elegance, with a touch of snazzy flair.

Hope you fall into a beautiful autumn weekend!

autumn decor

Happy Wednesday! Here are a few on-the-cheap decor ideas.

For my porch, I snatched up a few mum plants from Home Depot (only $3 ea!) along with a small pumpkin, and then added a chalkboard welcome sign. I think this makes a pleasant fall greeting for guests...even if it's just the mail delivery person who visits.

And corn. The idea was used in a wedding I styled this month—and I figured it makes for a great seasonal candle accent. I didn't want one lonely candle, so I used all the small votive holders on hand.

And lastly I made a fall bouquet. Then I decided to tell you all about my new found passion (floral styling) in another post. So for now just a quick look ;)

What new ideas are you using this fall? Anything that rocked your socks off?

updated light bulb diy

Late night Monday post—typical of myself these days. Recently I acquired a new set of bookshelves (which I can hardly wait to share with you). But first, I must fill them up with diy decor! Here is a small project I worked on today.

This light bulb diy is a version of this tutorial from Design*Sponge. It was pretty simple to create, although I may have broken a few too many bulbs. Though I like the original heart filament, I want to subtly incorporate a few favorite Scriptures into my home decor and this diy was a perfect way to do just that. The quote shown is Psalm 119:105, "Your word is a lamp unto my feet, And light unto my path."

So what do you think? Do you a favorite ways you've seen small inspirations incorporated into decor?

new coffee table

This may borderline on polygamy, but from this day forward my husband will have to share my affection with a new resident.

This is the first piece of furniture that I've had such affinity for. Well—the first furniture that I've actually owned. The coffee table was custom built by a craftsman using reclaimed barnwood, and in my opinion is shabby chic perfection. I like to sit and admire it. A lot.

The above image is the underside of the coffee table drawer (to hide those ugly remotes) that showcases a photograph of the barn where some of the repurposed wood came from. Even most of the nails/skrews are recycled. I found the craftsman through some friends that had custom furniture made. More images of his work can be found on the site Burning Barn Furniture. Isn't new furniture the best?!

Hope you are having an uplifting day today!

just add ruffles diy

Everything is better with ruffles! Especially my shower curtain—which went to the land of ruffles this week.

I searched and found these instructions, but didn't find a step by step so I decided to make my own.

1 // Use pinking shears to cut strips of fabric (ruffles shown are 1.5" wide).
2 // Sew a line down center of each fabric strip.
3 // Take one thread and pull tight, scrunching fabric into ruffles.
4 // Once the strip of fabric is completely ruffled, smooth out to make an even appearance. Then pin down (to other fabric surface) and sew another straight line following the previous seam.

While pretty basic, the six stripes did take about 4 hours of ruffling and sewing. The personality it adds to the bathroom is well worth it though.

Hope you are having a great week!

wallpaper and a creative rut

I am loving wallpaper lately. Do these images not make you want it in every room?

On the note of fabulous images that generate all kinds of envy—it may not yet be apparent to you, but I am stuck (creatively speaking). We've all been there, and who knows all the many contributing factors to a creative rut. Monday's post (or lack of) was a craft project that I totally botched, and I'm feeling that way about most of life. I want my blog content to be 90% my projects/images, and lately this has not been the case.

To cope this week, I plan to post pretty things I've found elsewhere. Next week I hope to have a set plan for my own creative projects. Additional coping mechanisms are to stop thinking negative thoughts. Sometimes I just feel bombarded with all the amazingly talented people out there, not to mention the onslaught of absolutely stunning images and brilliance we encounter daily (thanks to blogs!). Every once in a while I feel like I just don't measure up, that these people have it all together and my creativity is so so. This is when I gotta step back and say "I just need to do what I love and stop worrying". What I'm going to do is write down MY own goals/passions, to develop a strategy and re-focus. Crossing the fingers next week is a better week!

How about you? Can anyone relate? What are some helpful tips to kick the creative rut? I've bolded mine above, but would appreciate your input.

helpful painting tutorial

At least I'll attempt to be helpful.

So to get here (above), we gotta start here (below).

Taping all edges is first up. Then prep space for painting by using newspaper/etc to cover all area. TIP: I think propping the mirror up off the surface/floor would have been beneficial to prevent pooling paint at the bottom edge. Cutting off the dried paint was far less appealing than a nice backside edge.

Meet my new best friend. Primer spray paint—oh, how I love you. This stuff was so easy to apply and I think made the finished product look really good. I plan to use this on every paint project from now on.

Taking this project seriously, I bought a NICE edging brush and good paint. The three supplies (primer/brush/paint) ran just over $20, but made for a great end product finish.

After one primer and two coats of paint, I removed the tape before the second coat was dry. Needless to say I had a few leaks and paint on the mirror (above). To clean up the mirror surface, I used fingernail polish remover (with acetone) and razor blade. This worked really well and I don't think the mirror sustained any damage during its makeover.

All purdy and ready to hang!

While not the most inspiring post I've ever written, I hope it's helpful when you come across a paint project in the future. Have a most excellent weekend! I plan to do some crafty projects and should have fun things to show next week. How about your weekend plans???

words to live by

Quick post today as I sent my husband back to work and am playing catch up. Came across this grand poster and feel it's the closest thing to my ideal life manifesto (minus sing, but I'll work on that). It is so inspiring it makes me want to do a weekly column (did I just say column??? this blog is going places people). Perhaps soon!

Cheers on your Wednesday! Can't believe it's MARCH 2ND ALREADY.
